The sun shines radiantly on the hot, fertile earth of Sicily. The bitter oranges of the blossoming grove near the ancient city of Noto smell beguiling. The honey-yellow, magnificent Baroque façades glow warmly in the bright sunlight, the flowers in the large gardens and parks smell irresistible. One of the large villas is the home of the Englishman who followed the trail of the bitter oranges here. Eva, the artist, is his daughter. She loves the large wild garden with its blossoms and fragrances more than anything. She rarely goes out, and when she does, she charms everyone she meets in the streets with her zest for life and energy. The scent of oranges accompanies her unmistakably.
